Week 114
Day 657
Naples, Italy
40.8450° N, 14.2583° E
With Tom having grown up in Holland, MI and myself being from Mt. Vernon, WA the competing Dutch capitals of the US; we knew we needed to stop through Amsterdam during our Eurotrip.
As with the our time in Scotland, our short weekend in Amsterdam was much too short.
We had a great visit catching up with one of Tom’s Best Buddies from high school, Bob and his family.
The 6 of us (Tom, Myself, Mary, Bob, his wife Kathleen, and their baby Maggie Mae) rented an airbnb house just outside of Amsterdam in the cute little town of Weesp.
The house we had was perfect for the 6 of us. It was just a block away from a classic Amsterdam canal making it super picturesque. Being only a 15 min tram ride (Yet an expensive one! It was 21 euro round trip!) into the city, we were just far away to get the quiet dutch suburban life experience while still being able to take in the sites of the city during the day.

Tom, Bob, Kathleen, and Maggie took in the city from a boat ride through the canals, while Mary and I opted to explore on foot. Within our short 8+ hours downtown, we covered most of the highlights at least from the outside.

I’d love to come back to actually hop inside the VanGogh Museum and visit Anne Frank’s house, but with our limited time it was fun to people watch and see all the ridiculousness that is Amsterdam! Best of all, Bob was able to trace his roots and found his family’s Dutch business!
Next stop, a 10 day Road Trip in Ireland, before hitting up Italy, Croatia, and Iceland!
Ok, I realize we missed a ton!
Being a huge airport hub I know we’ll be back, what should we do the next time we are in the Netherlands?
